Join us at the LAC for a four week course on the fundamentals of filmmaking, taught by Rick Palidwor!

This introduction to film-making fundamentals will consist of interactive lectures supported by audio-visual clips. You will learn:

  • the basics of film scripts: how it should look, how it should read and how it should reflect the passage of time;
  • the basics of shot structure – the building blocks of a film;
  • the broad concept of screen direction – the rules to maintain coherent spatial relations on screen;
  • what goes behind movie sound – why it is so important, why it is so difficult and tricks to simplify this for low-budget creators;
  • simple director tricks to maximize the impact of a scene;
  • camera lens decisions to support your story and your locations.

Things learned in this workshop can be applied to all film genres: dramatic narrative, documentary, experimental.

The first class is FREE – come give it a shot! The remainder of the course will be $120 total – tickets can be purchased under the November 8th class date on our website.

2025 Education Program Refund Policy

Cancellations: Requests for refund received in writing at least 2 days in advance of an education program start date are eligible for a refund minus a $10 administration fee, or a full credit towards another education program. Late cancellations are non-refundable, credits will determined case by case at the sole discretion of the LAC.
