She Who Bathes the Moon; Chang’e – Alexandria Masse
Guest Curated by Fei Qin
March 27 – June 18, 2026
Reception: Friday, May 1, 6-8pm
Masse is fascinated by how a material can be manipulated and uses sewing, knitting and crochet to make whimsical sculptures. She channels the subconscious through her work by taking in her lived experiences and using that drive to create work that flows dimensionally. She is inspired by subject matter ranging from being a second-generation immigrant to the insects in her backyard. She establishes connections between childhood memories and relates them to present-day experiences.
Based in Waawiiataong (Windsor), Fei (they/them) is a communications professional and graduate student with a strong interest in storytelling, culture, and digital media. They currently serve as Assistant, Marketing and Communications at Art Windsor-Essex, where they support strategic communications initiatives that connect diverse audiences to contemporary art and community programming.

Things That Go Bump in the Night: Maxwell Johnson
March 27 – June 18 2026
Reception: Friday, May 1 6-8pm
In “Things That Go Bump in the Night,” Maxwell Johnson explores the landscapes of the subconscious through surreal encounters and emotional symbolism. His paintings blend mythic creatures, prism-like light, and simplified human forms that hover between playfulness and revelation. Each scene unfolds like a dream — part cosmic, part psychological — where the boundaries between past and present, memory and myth, dissolve.
Johnson’s bold use of color and form transforms internal experience into tangible space, inviting viewers to recognize their own inner narratives reflected in the surreal. These works are not just visions, but self-portraits of the mind — meditations on wonder, fear, and the strange beauty of being alive.

Join Alexandria Masse and Fei Qin in exploring the ancient myth of Chang’e, (嫦娥), the Chinese moon goddess who sought refuge on the moon with her rabbit after consuming the elixir of immortality taken from her husband, Hou Yi (后羿). “She who bathes the moon; Chang’e” reimagines Chang’e not as distant mythology, but as a living mirror for contemporary diasporic identity. The exhibition is structured around the 28-day lunar cycle, carried over through knitting and crochet, the primary mediums of this exhibition, worked in the round.

June 19 – July 16, 2026
Reception: Friday, June 27, 1-4pm
The desire to commune with the divine has been a source of inspiration ever since our distant ancestors began carving stone, forming clay and creating pictographs. From the prehistoric Venus of Willendorf to the Great Pyramid of Giza to the Last Suppers of Leonardo da Vinci and Andy Warhol, sacred art has been one of the primary dynamos of cultural progress. While growing up in a remote mountainous region in former Czechoslovakia, Pavlo Lopata was stirred to create by the candle-lit gilded icons and ornaments decorating his village church. Embodying a tradition spanning over a millennium originating in Byzantium, Lopata’s icons, egg tempera and oil paintings on specially prepared wooden panels, often with gold leaf, feature recognized Christian figures. Imbued with the artist’s prayers and manifesting divine revelations, the viewer is invited to reflection, meditation and hope for a better future.
