Different media and surfaces call up fresh responses in me. The immediacy of soft pastel captures the quick emotion (with nuances) while acrylic and collage are slower and open to finding new directions. Oil is more thoughtful and demanding.

I use thin layers of colour over shape and line to move past realism to disrupted space and form. There should be room for differing perceptions and interpretations, something more nebulous than fact. To finish, I like to reinforce with strong line.

In sum, my goal is illusion coupled with reality, an obvious surface with an underlying truth, all salted with some irony and humour.
