THE WAY I SEE THINGS: Jim Hunt

April 23rd – May 28th, 2023

Reception: Friday, May 12th, 7-9pm

My love for everything connected to the world of art started, I believe, about 70 years ago in Amherstburg while in Grade School. I had entered a small competition with a pastel drawing of a vase and won. As the years and activities sped along, I found myself at W.D Lowe Technical School in Windsor where the desire for everything “art” took hold under the instructions of my mentor Bert Weir, who went on in his art career to be well known in Canada.

After graduation, life took a turn away from art to the world of work, marriage, children, and everyday life. During this period, I had the opportunity to express my artistic desire by working in wood and opened a business creating Noah’s Arc and various other folk art pieces. The wood is gone, as well as all the power tools to be replaced by canvases, brushes, and acrylic paints.

It was approximately 3-4 years ago when my wife challenged me to start painting again, as a means to keep my brain active after a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease. This rekindled my love for all things art. After a long hiatus, I took the challenge and started experimenting with paint and canvas.

This enabled me to participate in gallery shows, sponsored by the Leamington Arts Centre. I have enjoyed this very much and have been creating paintings to share with family and friends. This has opened many new doors where I have been able to express myself in many areas of abstract art using different mixed media. It has truly been a joy for me to have this opportunity.

I feel that I have found my direction and style and I am excited to see where the brushes and paint take me. I am thankful to family and friends and LAC curator Chad Riley and staff for all the enthusiasm they have shown with regard to my work.
