In “Things That Go Bump in the Night,” Maxwell Johnson explores the landscapes of the subconscious through surreal encounters and emotional symbolism. His paintings blend mythic creatures, prism-like light, and simplified human forms that hover between playfulness and revelation. Each scene unfolds like a dream — part cosmic, part psychological — where the boundaries between past and present, memory and myth, dissolve. 

Johnson’s bold use of color and form transforms internal experience into tangible space, inviting viewers to recognize their own inner narratives reflected in the surreal.
