Event Details

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Leamington and the Kiwanis Club, the Leamington Arts Centre presents the 27th annual Juried Student Art Show.

This exhibition was open to all grade 11 and 12 Essex County secondary school students. Each year, the talent and creativity of our young emerging artists amazes viewers and creates a diverse and engaging show.

This year 127 students from 13 secondary schools throughout the county participated with a total of 195 artworks submitted and displayed.

Participating schools include Cardinal Carter Secondary School, École secondaire catholique E.J. Lajeunesse, Erie Migration District School – Secondary, Essex District High School, Leamington District Secondary School, North Star High School, Riverside Secondary School, Sandwich Secondary School, St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Secondary School, Tecumseh Vista Academy – Secondary, UMEI Christian High School, Vincent Massey Secondary School, and Walkerville Collegiate Institute.

Cash prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each of the seven categories as well as to the People’s Choice winner, and to the winner of the Future Artist Award. This year’s jurors are Andrea Niven and Scott Livingstone.

The winner of this year’s Future Artist Award is Emma Borland.

Emma is a Grade 12 graduating Student at St- Thomas of Villanova and will be attending the University of Windsor in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program, this fall.

Emma is heavily involved in her school’s art and religion departments, assisting with theatre set design, restoration of the school’s nativity scene, and was given the opportunity to design and paint a mural. Emma has experience in graphic design and is fascinated with the inner workings of museums and galleries.

Emma is looking forward to continuing her studies in the arts and is hoping to enter a career in Windsor-Essex County pertaining to art restoration, set design, or as a freelance artist. Congratulations Emma!
